A 'Novel' experience at IIM A

Very soon, Chetan Bhagat will be joined by another IIMA alumnus to publish a novel. Rajesh Singh, a PGP-PMP candidate at IIMA, will be joining him in that respect. Diamond Publishers will soon publish Rajesh’s novel, titled ‘That Hardly Happens to Someone!’.
Rajesh has worked in the Air Force for 4 years and with the State Bank of India for 8 years. The novel is partly autobiographical and Rajesh wrote it when he was in Texas for two months on international attachment. The toughest part, he says, was fleshing out the dialogue since most of the events were embedded in his memory.
The story revolves around a boy who grows up in a small village and moves to a big city. It describes the various ups and downs in his career, love and life and brings out the various cultural and social setups.
Here is looking forward to the publication of the novel and enthusiastic response from world over.

A Juicy Affair

In what could be dubbed as a prime example of teacher-student interactions going beyond the classroom at IIMA, the students were invited to a juice party by Prof. Prathap Oburai, arguably the best marketing research prof in the country.

The subject was Business Research Methods and the class was involved in an intense discussion on how a juice bar should design its concept in order to develop a loyal customer base. The prof shared a lighter moment by admitting that it would be a lot more fun to extend this discussion in the evening over some juice and snacks. In a rare instance at IIMA, the whole class agreed in chorus.

The result: The class reunited in the evening and continued the discussion amidst the juice party at Prof. Oburai’s residence. Here's photographic evidence...

The Juice Party!

Four students currently living in Dorm 10, sharing some memories with Prof. Oburai who used to live in Dorm 10 in his student days.

IIMA’s Students Exchange Program

Over 100 IIMA students are all set to explore and experience the nuances of global education by participating in one of the India’s largest students exchange program. This year, the students had an option to choose amongst 38 prominent global business schools across the globe. The list included some of the world’s best business schools such as Stern School of Business, Columbia Business School, HEC School of Management and Stockholm School of Economics.

The students exchange program provides the students an excellent opportunity to learn not only the nuances of modern global business management but also to interact and experience a medley of international culture and heritage. Although the exchange program would commence from August, the enthusiasm amongst students was overwhelming. In addition, about 5 students have opted for IIMA’s Dual Degree Programs with the Universities of ESSEC and Bocconi. These students would spend two semesters of their second year in the associated universities and receive MBA degrees from both the institutes.

A Fond Farewell to Section Tashan (PGP 2007-09)

It’s that time of the year again when PGP2s realize that the end of their journey at IIM-A is in sight and reflect on all the good things that have happened over the past 2 years, the good times they had together and the wonderful moments that they shared. It all began with a ‘Senti NB 2009’ created on DBab- the lifeline of a student at IIM-A, which was filled with reflective thoughts, poems, wishes for the future and spam (old habits die hard here!!).
In true IIM-A tradition, the POTY (Poll of the Year) awards ceremony was held on 20th Feb, 2009. In the build-up to this event, the PGP2s came up with some of the wackiest awards for their fellow colleagues along with nominees. Some of the weirder awards included the ‘Ghar-Jamai’ award for the male residents of the female dorms and the ‘Hair today, gone tomorrow’ award for receding hairlines. The ceremony itself was studded with brilliant musical performances by the PGP2s, who covered artistes ranging from Nusrat Fatheh Ali Khan to System of a Down.
The evening was capped off with ‘Yalgaar’- the annual PGP1 vs PGP2 ultimate frisbee match. Frisbee, being the ‘national’ sport at IIM-A, and this match was competitive to the core but played in the best spirits. The match was won by the PGP1s, and in the end, all the PGP2s were left contemplating on the best 2 years of their life.

Professor Aamir Khan

Click here to see a small video of the lecture on our youtube channel

What is common between Aamir Khan and IIM Ahmedabad? Come on, it’s an easy catch!
The link is 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan’s latest movie whose screenplay has been adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller ‘5 point someone’. Chetan Bhagat is an alumnus of IIM-A, a passout of 1997.
On Feb 7, 2008, all roads in IIMA led to Class Room 10 where Aamir Khan was to deliver a lecture to a batch of around 80 second year students as part of their elective course “Introduction to Contemporary Film Industry”. Aamir Khan shared his experience in the film industry over the past two decades and gave a lot of insights into the ‘business’ side of film-making. The initiative by Prof. Tejas Desai to float this course was hugely successful and all students were very pleased with both the experience of ‘learning’ from Aamir himself as well as the opportunity to understand the film industry in a systematic manner. Famous celebrities who have donned the new role of teaching before Aamir for this course include Apoorva Lakhia and Sanjay Gadhvi.
This evening with Aamir is something no one who was there will ever forget!
